I ran for City Council for the first time in 2004 and again in 2007 finishing third both times. I was encouraged by these results and that is one reason why I decided to run again in 2010. I genuinely enjoyed knocking on doors and hearing your issues and your ideas. I want you to tell me what kind of city you want.
Crime, transportation, and infrastructure issues continue to be a concern. I feel that the basic core services have been neglected to some extent, services like snow removal, road repair, community policing and other infrastructure maintenance and its time that council focus on what’s really important to the everyday elements of running a great city. It is fine to want to bring events like Expo to Edmonton but we cannot neglect the core elements of what has made this city great -vibrant neighbourhoods and responsible planning. I believe that safe neighbourhoods, a vibrant downtown and better funding arrangements with the other orders of government continue to be issues in 2010.
LRT extension to the north central is slowly becoming a reality and I was very vocal in 2004 and 2007 that the north central had been left off the map when it came to LRT extension. In 2010, I will be vocal once again as we progress towards making it a reality.
I do not have all the answers and I welcome your ideas. I will work hard for you, apply common sense to any problem and I will always listen. I look forward to hearing from you.
